How is FFP treatment given? Is it painful?
FFP treatment is usually done in a hospital. It's not a major surgery. It's a simple procedure, like giving a saline solution.
1. Preparation: First, take the FFP bag from the freezer and place it in a special hot water bath until it reaches body temperature. This cannot be microwaved, as doing so will destroy the valuable proteins in it.
2. Inserting the IV line: Next, a nurse or doctor will insert a small cannula into a vein in your arm. This is similar to getting a needle inserted to give you saline. Aside from a slight stinging sensation, there is no significant pain.
3. Giving the plasma: Now the bag containing the diluted yellow plasma is connected to the IV line. Then it is slowly infused into your body through your vein.
