What is a titer value?
This ``Titer`` value tells you how much antibodies are in the child's blood. This is found as follows: The pathologist dilutes the protein-rich liquid part of the child's blood (plasma) by adding a little saline water (salt water). Just like we dilute a cordial with water when making a drink.
First, a mixture of 40 parts of plasma with 1 part saline is made (1:40). This mixture is then further diluted (e.g. 1:80, 1:160, 1:320). Each diluted sample is tested for ANA.
