Simply put, a UTI is an infection that occurs when a germ enters our urinary system. Our urinary system is made up of the kidneys, ureters , bladder , and urethra. It is through this system that waste products and extra water are excreted from the body in the form of urine.
Usually, the main cause of these infections is bacteria . However, very rarely, fungi or viruses can also cause this condition. Even if these germs enter the body of a healthy person, our immune system destroys them before they can cause any problems. But sometimes, these germs overcome our immune system and settle in the urinary system. That's when we get this painful UTI.
If you have these symptoms, it's best to see a doctor as soon as possible. He or she can then determine if these symptoms are due to a UTI or something else. But before that, you might want to try a home test to help you understand the situation a little faster.
How does this at-home UTI test work?
These days, you can buy UTI test kits at pharmacies or online. These are called "dipstick tests." They work just like a pregnancy test.

A urine culture involves taking a sample of your urine, growing the bacteria in it, and finding out exactly what bacteria it is and what the right antibiotic is for it. A home test can't do any of this.
