What are Lymph Nodes?
Simply put, lymphocytes are part of our body's immune system, the system that protects us from diseases. Just like the police checkpoints in our country, these lymphocytes also act as security checkpoints in our body. They are a major part of our lymphatic system. These lymphocytes work together with your spleen and tonsils to fight germs and infections that enter the body. Their main function is to capture and remove germs, waste products, and cancer cells from the body's fluid called lymph. Imagine, there are between 600 and 800 of these lymphocytes throughout our body. But normally, we don't even touch them or feel their presence. We only start to feel them when the body is fighting an infection. What really happens with the ants?
Our lymphatic system is like a system that removes waste from the body. Waste products from cells, dead cell fragments, bacteria and viruses that have entered the body are collected in this lymph fluid. This lymph fluid travels through the lymphatic vessels and reaches the checkpoints we mentioned, called lymph nodes. Inside the nodes are special types of white blood cells. These are the army of our body.- Lymphocytes: These are the main soldiers of the immune system.
- Macrophages: These are like Pac-Man. They engulf and destroy germs and waste products that enter the body.
- Dendritic cells: These cells display special recognition markers, or antigens '', on germs to other immune cells, teaching them, "Here's the enemy, remember this one."
Two types of immune cells (B-cells and T-cells)
There are two main types of lymphocytes. 1. B-cells: These cells recognize germs and produce specific antibodies against them. The production of 'antibodies'. These antibodies go and stick to the germs, like a thief being caught and labeled. Other immune cells can then easily find and destroy these labeled germs. 2. T-cells: These also have several jobs. Some T-cells go directly to recognize germs and destroy them. Other T-cells help B-cells and other immune cells, like commanders in an army.

Where is the Kuddeti located?
Lymph nodes are spread almost everywhere in our body except the brain and spinal cord. These can be mainly divided into two parts. 1. Superficial lymph nodes: These are the ones that we feel when we get sick. They are mainly located in:- Cervical
- Axillary
- Inguinal
The important thing is that if there is an infection somewhere, the nodes closest to it will swell. For example, if you have an infection in your throat , the nodes in your neck will swell. If a wound on your leg becomes infected , the nodes in your groin may swell.
Why do nipples swell and when should you be concerned?
A swollen pimple means that a large number of our immune soldiers (white blood cells) inside it are gathering and fighting off the germs that have entered the body. This means that your immune system is working well. Usually, a swollen pimple is a little soft to the touch, hurts a little when pressed, and can move around under the skin. However, not all swellings are normal. Sometimes they can be a sign of a serious illness. Therefore, it is very important to understand this difference.| Characteristic | In case of a common infection (nothing to worry about) | When to see a doctor immediately |
|---|---|---|
| Nature | Soft, like a sponge. | It's hard as a rock and feels like rubber . |
| Pain | It hurts when touched or pressed. | There is often no pain . |
| Movement | You can move it around under the skin. | It's like being stuck in one place, unable to move . |
| Time and quantity | As the infection heals, it gradually shrinks and disappears (within 1-2 weeks). | It has been swollen for more than 2-4 weeks and is getting bigger quickly . |
| Other features | There are signs of an infection, such as fever, runny nose, and sore throat. | There are also symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, night sweats, and extreme fatigue . |
