True wasps are usually forest dwellers. They build their nests in tree hollows, about 6 feet above the ground. However, they can also sometimes be found in old buildings, attics, and inside the walls of houses. In the spring, the queen comes alone and begins to build a paper-like nest by chewing on things like logs and mixing them with her saliva. She then lays eggs , and the first worker wasps that emerge from them take over the tasks of expanding the nest, caring for the other young, and finding food.

This is our biggest problem. European hornets are not usually going to attack someone who is not bothering them. They will only become aggressive if they feel threatened or if their nest is in danger. But remember, hornets fly at night and are attracted to the outdoors. So they may come into your home at night if you leave your windows and doors open.

Yes, wasps can sting. But most of the time, the pain is similar to a bee sting. If you are not allergic, the pain and swelling will usually subside within a few hours. The best way to avoid a wasp is to stay calm if it comes near you. If you get agitated and start flailing your arms and legs, the wasp will take that as a threat and bite you.

If you are stung by a wasp, do the following: 1. Wash thoroughly with soap and water. 2. If the stinger is still in the skin, remove it. Do not pull or squeeze it with tweezers. This is a medical emergency that can be life-threatening. If you experience any of these symptoms after being stung by a wasp, go to a hospital's Emergency Department (ETU) immediately. If you have had an allergic reaction to an insect sting in the past, talk to your doctor about it and get advice on keeping something like an epi-pen handy for emergency use.

How do you remove spider webs?

If you have a bee's nest in a tree far away in your yard, and it's not bothering anyone, the best thing to do is to leave it there. As we discussed earlier, the nest is abandoned at the end of the season. However, if the nest is inside the house, near a door or window, or in a dangerous place, it will need to be removed.

• If you remove it yourself (at your own risk): This is a very risky task. But if you must do it, be extremely careful.
• Use an aerosol spray specifically designed for wasps and hornets that can be sprayed up to 10-15 feet away.

• But, never shine a flashlight on them. The beetles will fly towards the light.
• Spray the inside of the cage thoroughly and then immediately move away from there.
• Spray again if necessary. After all the animals are dead, remove the cage.
