Imagine, if your heart suddenly started beating very fast and without any control... that could be a big threat to your life, right? What is this S-ICD?

Imagine, if the heart's rhythm suddenly becomes dangerously fast, that is, if it starts beating out of control, this small device detects it. How is the S-ICD different from a regular ICD?

- Traditional ICD (Transvenous ICD - TV-ICD): In this type, one or more wires ( leads ) connected to the device go through your veins and connect directly to the heart .
- S-ICD: But that's not the case with the S-ICD. Here, the wire is not inserted into a blood vessel. Instead, it is inserted under the skin , in the center of the chest , above the heart.
Therefore, the risk of damage to blood vessels or the heart during implantation of the S-ICD is very low. Also, the risk of infections and blood clots that can occur due to the wires passing through the blood vessels is greatly reduced with this method.

What happens before and during this surgery?

Preparation before surgery
Your doctor will give you the necessary advice.

How the surgery is performed
